All of my recordings are done on a 1/4" tape.

Now, as the final product is digital, I need a way to dump the 8 tracks on the tape into the computer. I thought about installing 4 sound cards so I can have 8 audio ins, but some of you said this cannot be done as the 4 card A/D converters are different and not syncronized. So, is there a way to still use 4 audio cards and not a single 8 ins card ? What is the best way to be able to still record on tape and to mix and master on digital and is there aby way to still use 4 audio cards instead of one 8-inputs card ?

Tahnks

Why would you want to deal with the hassle of 4 cards even if it could work?

If you want 8 ins check out Motu, Delta 1010, RME, Q10. If you are using an anlog mixer than you only need 2 ins to record your master.

The reason I want to dump the 8 track (and not the 2 stereo mixed tracks) is that I want to use effects for mixing (compressor, reverbs etc.) instead of building up an effect rack.

By the way, are there multi effects that can process few tracks simultaniously ? Say I want to still mix analog, can I just use one multieffect to compress and reverbs multiple tracks without effecting each others ?
