Hey Everyone,

I recorded an mp3 and posted it in the mp3 forum. The recording is solo acoustic guitar, miced with a pair of 603's. Here is the link to the thread:

What i am wondering is if anyone has any idea how to improve the sound given my gear. One poster said he can hear alot of the room, in a bad way. Would that indicate that the mics are to far away? Would a preamp help in boosting the signal since i have a soft attack?

thanks

Hey Dude,

I think it sounds pretty good. Hey it sound alot better than my quality. Was that all mic or did you use direct with that as well. But if people say it sounds too distant, I have the same problem.
I would love to hear what people have to say on how to fix it. Also, do you have any effects on those recordings??

Nice playing Anton!

Moving the mics closer and reducing the gain on the mbox will clean up your signal. An additional pre before the mbox could increase the signal but you don't want to add unnecessary equipment into your signal chain.

Thanks for the compliments, and advice.

I will give it a shot this weekend, in addition to new strings. I was amazed at what a difference that makes.

The recordings are dry, no reverb or anything added.

Sounds good

I wouldn't worry too much about the guy who said it was too 'roomy'. It sounds like a good recording of an acoustic guitar.
Like the others said, bringing in the mic real close would eliminate the room sound. On my recordi9ngs I tend to EQ out some of the 'boomy/boxy' frequencies lows to mids, but that's a personal preference.

I liked both of 'em, both the sound and the playing.

My monitors are a pair of JBL L40 driven by a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz through a Yamaha 60w stereo power amp.

Sometimes when I use my NT-1 around 10 inches from soundhole it sounds like I'm INSIDE the guitar. which isn't always [read "ever"] good. If you are concerned with the roomyness try a similar setup with a similar mic. I think you sound fine though.
