I am wanting to play around some with recording some acoustic guitar (mostly fingerstyle). On a $500 or less budget what do you suggest? I currently have a Compaq computer w/ AMD Athlon1800 1.53Gig, 60gig hard drive w/ 512 memory. No good sound card yet (integrated). One of my Guitars has a B-Band under the saddle pickup w/ endpin pre. I'm not sure if I should go the route of Mic or through the pickup with a Baggs Pari DI. What editing software is the best? Thanks In Advance!!!

Here's my standard answer:

Microphones: 2 Oktava MC012 or 2 Marshall MXL 603s ($150 pair)
Preamp: M-Audio DMP3 dual preamp ($150)
Soundcard: M-audio Audiophile ($140)
Software: N-Track Studio ($45)

I'd scratch up a few more dollars for decent cables and monitor on anything I could until I could afford a decent monitoring system.

dont go the pickup route. mics sound much better (no matter how much people wish the pickups sounded good)
if your just recording ac guitar i dont think you'll need to spend alot of dough on software. cause you wont need many tracks and acoustic recordings usually dont have a ton of effects.

I just recorded a couple guitar tracks, and I used an MXLv67g to mic it, and I had it DI'ed to my Delta 44,

Drummer4Life05, how do you like the v67g? do you use any other large diaphram condensors for guitar?

I love the way it sounded. I ran it through a Mackie DFX12, into my Delta 44.
Sounded great to me, but I've never dealt with anything else. It's the only LDC I have.

I'm sure it'll sound great through something like a ART Tube MP, DMP3, or even an audiobuddy. Though I have VERY untrained ears, it sounded very clean to me.

They go for about 100 bucks on ebay, with a schockmount and cable! Throw in a stand, and Tube MP, it'll be about 200 bucks.

Hope this helps!
