Hello people.
This is my first post so please be gentle.Ihave purchased a tascam 2488mk2 24 track multitracker.I cant for some reason record 8 tracks at once.It doesnt mention how to do this in the manual. The best i can do is 2 tracks at one time.
I hold the source button then i select the track i want to use with that source. i,e source a = track one. then press the record button. It will let me set two tracks but no more.
Has anyone else had this problem?, is this a faulty multitracker?Any advice would be great thak you.

Just to clarify, you are making all of your source/track selections before you press record correct?

When you press the say the 3rd source and track keys do you see the key lights blinking?

You understand that you cannot assign multiple sources to a single track?

Hi Simon, welcome to the BBS. Did you get the Neo?

I'm on my third read of the manual; and it's starting to make sense. It's a tuff read because it's kinda all over the place but reading it a number of times puts it into perspective.

Not sure why you would want to record 8 tracks of the same input but you can assign a single input to multiple tracks by pressing and holding the input key while pressing multiple select keys. You cannot assign multiple inputs to the same track though.

When you do this it looks a little weird. Say you hold the A input button and then choose select on track 6, 7, 8 and 9(don't hold these just select them). As you are holding the input button, on all 4 tracks the select light will be lit but when you let go of the input button only the select light on 9 will remain lit. If you now press only the select lights on all four tracks you will see they are all assigned to the A input.

For recording don't forget you have to arm the tracks you want to record. For this example, you would press the rec button on tracks 6,7,8 and 9 before you press the play and record button on the transport.

Hope this helps. I'm working on mastering with the Neo at the moment. So far I've only exported a 24 bit copy of all the tracks I recorded onto a CD to check out how that would work with my Cubase/Wavelab software. That worked really good but I'm sure using the USB transfer will be easier. I still need some time reading that manual to get a visual of how to mix and master using the 2488 itself. So far I can say I really like the sound of the pre's and converters.

There just isn't enough time in the day I swear :)

I forgot to mention if you press the shift key to light it up and then press the map key you can check the input assignments. It's all in the manual. :)

Simon, you should be able to record 8 tracks simulatanously.

You have to assign each input channel (A through H) individually to a separate track (say, Input A > Track 1, Input B Track 2, etc.) Do this for each input.

Also, make sure that you have pressed the "Record" button above each track's "Select" button before recording. The Record buttons will blink when the unit is paused, and you can set the levels for each input at this point. When you record, each of the Record buttons will illuminate steadily.

.
That's not true. You can assign a single input to multiple tracks. What you can't do is assign multiple inputs to a single track.

Ah, OK. I stand corrected. :)

I do think the issue with the OP's original question is a matter of assignment and enabling recording on the desired inputs.
