I recently bought a BR-8, so I sold my 488mkII to a friend. I can't dig up the manual, so I'm not sure how to help him with the following as I can't recall how to do it:

He's trying to record 4 tracks at once but only getting two out. How should the Assign buttons be set to let this work?

Thanks,

Can't help with the Tascam, but tell us how you like the BR8. Is the center cancel function decent. Is the phrase trainer real noisy like the Sabine backtrack? Have you gone from Zip to burning a CD?

I believe it is a panning issue. I've done this many moons ago. Pan the first two hard left and the next two hard right. Press the 1L 2R assign button. It will be wierd while recording and monitoring, but once down on tape he can pan them howevere he desires. I think this will work, like I said I've done it but was a loooooong time ago.

hi, vonstan;
I have a 488 MkII and I never had any problems recording multiple tracks. I know that on the original 488 you had to pan two tracks each way (L & R), since the buss configuration was differrent. I believe all your friend needs to do is assign 1 track from each group and go for it. If I'm mistaken, the more experienced folks out there please correct me. Anyway, I hope this has been of help to you.

Thanks all. The panning thing was what I was forgetting (I usually recorded one track at a time, not live, so...) Thanks again.
