I just started to record drums with my Alesis MultiMix 8 USB 2.0 mixer. When I play it back the track skips at random parts. Could this be because of a weak processor? I am recording with 4 mics.
Ok, yeah. It's probably the processor. Also, make sure you are recording the individual tracks in mono. Stereo tracks take up a lot more space if you don't need them.
I can't imagine it is the number of tracks of audio streaming.
That is more a performance characteristic of your hard drive.
Assuming you have a 7200 rpm drive with close to average specs you should be flying.
Normally the hit to the processor is in plug ins and software load.
if you don't have much RAM memory your processor will work harder.
For example.
I have an older Pentium 3 700 mhz win 98se (1.5 meg ram) unit running Samplitude and I routinely record 12 to 20 tracks simultaneously and can playback 24 to 30 tracks as long as I am not getting silly with the plug ins.
