Song: "GET AWAY" - RDE

This one isn't my band, but they recorded LIVE here, took about 3-4 hours for them to record thier shit and me to mix it all down and burn them 2 master copies. i'm amazed with how good i got it to sound.

using these mics: sm58, 57, mxl803s, atpro25, DI bass.
i have a few of most those mics
behringer 802a mixer
fostex 4track (for the mic pres, didnt record to tape)
input into Delta44

so diregaurd the shity punk music and they're mediocore performance. i want so REAL feedback on the recording though. i mean, this sounds almost as good as my stuff that i am doing seperrately - minus the great drum tracks i've been lucking out with recently...i dont understnad why! lol

thanks again

Everything seems real bassy, but I think it sounds good. Could maybe use a bit more high end. Good job though man.

I'm assuming you're done with this, right? If you were looking for opinions on the next one, then I'll throw my 2 cents in. I'm gonna' respectfully disagree with the "too much bass" comment above. EQ wise, I think you're in good shape. I'd have liked the drums to be louder, but God only knows what the guy was playing, so you may have done the best thing for the song.

I'm always saying this next comment...vocal UP please.

Rock on,
Chris

Hey Shackrock,

Was this recorded using CEP or are you still using NTrack?

About the Mix:

1. Not a biggy but I can hear a bit of buzz from the clean guitar at the start like it's getting interference from the computer monitor.

2. The transition between the clean and heavy parts needs fades. The clean part just cuts off. You should fade the clean part so it comes to complete silence. Maybe even start the singing while the last clean note is still playing.

3. Maybe use a little bit more compression on the vocals to keep them under control. In some parts they seem to jump out at you. Then again maybe it's just the singer.

Great Mix!!
Keep rocking fellow teen recording amigo!

I'm sorry, I had a moment of extreme brain fart when I posted above. I meant I thought the drums sounded a bit too bassy, like a wee bit muddy. I don't know. In general the snare lacked punch, kinda dull. Never mind, don't take advice from me at all, I'm an idiot and cannot express ideas in writing worth a crap, please forgive me.

Oh, shit...I'm too damn old to even review this. Would have liked more drums and more present vocals, maybe an EQ that brought the guitars more in my face. Like I said, its hard for me to say--I'm mixing Crown Royal with Geritol, so 'scuse me if I can't be more coherent. Has anybody seen my hearing aid?

Oh, I thought the bass was killer sounding, no matter what the musical style.

That made me laugh.

However, you basically said..."more vocal, and more drums," which is what I said. So we're either both right, or both deaf...

Wait...dammit. Can we be deaf AND right? :D

Ok, listened to it like 5 times. Good job. Vocals seem ok (volume wise), drums could come up a bit, but I still think lack a little punch. But I guees that is just me. Have I mentioned I'm an idiot? Seeya. Good job shack.

yeah i'm all done with it.
used ntrack. (CEP seems like it does a lot more then i know how to do so far, and the simple things that i am able to use so quickly now with ntrack, are made in CEP in a way that it takes longer to do the same simple things...at least it seems to me. So eventually when i learn some more about software and recording, then i'll make the switch. for now, i'm content with ntrack. ha.)
vox were actually pretty damn compressed - and they still sound like that some spots....i figured, forget it. ha. these guys wanted it done and didnt care much anyway.

thanks guys, anything else?

Good guitar tone. The drums are weak in the mix. Working as fast as you did, that's an easy mistake to make.
