Oh REALLY????
Hi there,

i guess this is an easy question but i tried several hours to get the record level meter running with no luck. The rlm shows at the bottom of the window but does not work. I tried all options that seemed even remotely relevant but nothing worked. to my shock it suddenly started working while i was editing a single track (while in multitrack mode sort of...) onplayback

I would like to see the levels on record and playback, if possible ofcourse...

thanks guhlenn

Sure, okay, here's to how to get the meters operative if your system's working right:

Open a new session.

Right click on the black meter bar at the bottom of the screen.

Left click on 'Show Meters For All Devices'.

Then you arm your track(s) and record. The meters should work. No?

hmmm, i'll try that. i'm not in the vicinity of the computer right now so i'll let ya know. I tried the right clicking on the bar on the bottom but it yielded no option like that as far as i can remeber... but i guess i missed it.

thanks and i'll let ya know

lol... check out if you have muted the device in Windows Volume Control - Preferences - Record

muted the device??

i get sound and i can record it's just that the record level meter shows no signal...

'Aight!!
Right click the Volume Meter in the bottom of cep and choose "Show on Play and Record"
If that doesn't work, you need to reinstall the thing probably

Dude... mine doesnt work either.

Never has.

But Ive never tried to fix it, having other meters.....

xoxo

Hey Camm, be carefull, using other meters only might give you a different db reading if it goes through your soundcards gain stage as well? I use both the cooledit meters and external meters and no matter how its patched there's always a different reading. Whether this matters is another thing though.

Since digital clipping is such a bad thing, best use the cooledit meters if you can.

guhlenn... bummer. Kepp working it, but it may be a CEP mis-function. Ive never seen that bar work.

Scott.. dont worry about me.. I have Meters on a hardware mixer on my soundcard. Meters before and after all my gain stages. Mad meters.
:)

xoox

I've seen it work, but without a logical explanation WHY it worked... anyway, thank you all.

guhlenn:confused:

Camm, point is, do your mad meters show clipping. I'd be interested to know which type of sound card has meters that show clipping ? You know, the type that leaves the red dot on. Not just the usual ones that pop in and out of the red area.
I have meters on my "echo mona" and also on my "mackie desk" but only the cooledit meters show clipping dots. When the cooedit meters clip, the red clip dot stay's on. Even after you hit stop. You then just have to click on them once to reset them. I never had to worried about it when I mixed on tape.
Sound forge has the same clipping dot feature.
