Recommended drum heads

I am about to change my drum heads on my Tama Starclassic Performer Birch set: 20 kick, 10, 12, 14 floor and 14 birch snare. I am not a drummer. The set is used for classic rock, funk, acoustic, and other styles of music. The drummer that uses it is a bit mellow with frequent rolls. I just want basically the best heads that are versatile and suited for recording. This set is the house set in my recording studio. Thanks for the info!

Evans. They have a head for nearly every style and the durability is second to none.

The Genera snare heads don't loose their coating within a couple hours of play like Remo's do. They have several lines of 1 and 2 ply heads that offer different tonal possibilities. I myself have used G2's, EC2's, Hydraulic, and Onyx tom batter heads. I really like the EC2's and Onyx heads. The Hydraulic heads weren't bad, but they were too 70's wet sounding for our style of music. The G2's last forever, and are a good general use head.

Sounds like you may lean more towards the G1's or they have a new head called the G-Plus that sounds promising.

I also use EMAD's on the kick and absolutely love them.
 
For me I prefer coated heads for recording (the thinnest I can get away with for the tuning) and clear heads for Live work.

I prefer Evans myself, but I have used Remos as well and aquarian.
 
I think you'd want something coated. Remo coated Ambassadors or Emperors will do you just fine and they last a long time. If you want clear heads, Evans G2's or EC2's are fantastic.

Don't forget the reso heads.

I always change the bottoms with the tops. They may not get a beatin', but they are usually thinner and stretch too. I usually use Evans Genera Reso heads, but I have used G1's and even G2's once. I wouldn't recommend the G2's for resonants unless you want a really, really dead tom. It was an experiment, and now I know. :D
 
G1's are great resos.

I change mine every other batter head change.
 
I have coated Emps over Ambs, with a PS3 and a coated SC logo head on the bass, same sizes plus a 16 and an 8. We took the kit to the studio over a first-generation GMS kit.

Unfortunately, Evans pulled that off of their site as far as I can tell. Maybe they are adding their new lines to it...or at least I hope they are. That chart was very helpful.
 
If you're starting out, in my opinion Remo or Evans is the way to go. Personally, i prefer Remo.A Coated Emperor X on the snare, clear pinstripes on toms, clear ambassadors on all the bottoms, and powerstroke II for the bass batter. I don't use anything for reso bass head. I think you can get a pretty awesome rock sound with those. You can look up what your favorite drummers use. But don't forget, tuning is extremely important. People often forget that and blame their drumheads for not getting the sound they want.
