Hello all,

What would you recommend for a dedicated out board De-esser ?
What model #'s.

DBX, Behringer what ???

Thanks
Pier

Cheapest, simplest and provides adequate sib control is the Beh Intelligate. Functions as both a De-esser and a Ducker with serviceable Hi/Lo pass adjustable filters in each chan along with
useable and decent Gating functions! There are other units available with primo perf along with primo prices, but priced at street $55, the Intelligate provides the user with sufficient sib control on minor and mid level tasks.

Thanks Misterqcue,

I'll have to check that one out.

I was looking at the SPL 9629. I wonder how well this one works?

Thanks again.

IMO the DBX902 is no doubt the best and simplest.

Never worked with anything as simple and easy to use - or as good sounding.

Only bad thing is that it only comes in the quite large 900 rack.

It seems from some of the posts I've read, that a lot of people really don't like using deessers. They try and find other solutions for their sibilance reduction.

What are some other solutions?

Thanks
Pier

Thanks Tex,

I guess that would be a good way to do it.

When I record my own vocals on a condensor it is sibilance hell. I'll record other people on the same mics with no problem. I think a big part of it is that I really suck as a singer but using a simple 57 helped with the sibilance

Tex, you beat me to it (dynamic mic).

The more neutral sounding condensers work better for that on
me than those with "sheen". Pointing a condenser down towards your mouth also captures more chest resonance.

Been having good luck with the the Studio Projects B1 I just
bought BTW.

DBX 263a is a racked version of that dbx900. and can be had cheap on ebay.
