Hi all,

I'll be taking guitar classes at my college this fall and I will be needing a new
classical. The one I've been using in past classes won't cut it because the top is
cracking and the neck is also.

I went to my local shop, and tried some out, going from the cheapest to most expensive. They had cheap carlo robellis? that
I didn't like. Some Yamahas that were okay. The first one I picked up that I actually liked was a $350 yamaha like this.

Could someone recommend a guitar less than 300 that is nice. The cheaper the better. I'm hoping there may be some not-so-popular brand that makes great guitars for cheap.

Also, are hofner guitars any good? I've never heard of them but there is an HF12 on ebay for pretty cheap.

i tried that yammy $99 one. there were a few of them there. i thought it was ok, but when i tried some good ones, there was a pretty big difference in sound.

i would only go w/ the cheap one if you are just starting, or not sure if it's your main thing. maybe try used.

one thing that was good, was that there was almost nobody around and you can spend a lot of time trying them out, definitly take the time, and go back a few times

i don't really know the brands tho, gud luk.

Esteve
Pavan
La Patrie
Yamaha

Classical guitars can vary in tone a LOT from one to another within the same make/model.

Thanks guys,
Yeah I tried the lower level yamahas and they were only ok.
The only yammies I would consider are the ones in the link above and higher level ones. But they're expensive.

Thanks Tim, I'll check those brands out.

I've been playing for a while now so I want something I'll be able to keep for a long while and grow with.

The class I'm into is going to involve performances and concerts with the ensemble so
I need something loud with lots of sustain.

Tim knows his stuff. La Patrie would be my choice at that price.
