boom box recordings
I looking to build a snake to connect the tracking room to the computer control room. I need 16 pairs. 12 for mics and 4 for headphone monitoring.
I am currently using mogami 2549 cable exclusively in my front end signal chain.

Anyone know a standard for multichannel (16ch) cable (reguardless of brand) that would be on the same quality or better than my mogami 2549 cable.

Thanks, G

Check out haveinc.com They have lots to choose from and good prices.

Foil shielded will be smaller diameter and lighter, for 8 channels it really doesn't matter.
Braided shield is ruggeder, for a home snake it doesn't really matter.
Some braided snake is a pain, but now that they make stuff with that nice little drain wire like foil, it doesn't really matter.
A braid should provide better shielding, but if you have even reasonable equipment and don't hear the radio through your fillings, it doesn't matter.

Much more important to me is that each pair is already jacketed and numbered, as I hate heat shrinking. It makes the cable a little bigger, but I don't care, so it doesn't matter. :p

It mostly depends on your comfort level. Some people will need quad braided snake cable or they can't sleep at night. Some will buy anything they can get on ebay. I'm kind of in the middle. A decent brand-name cable will serve you well for years, no matter the configuration.
