I dont' own a copy, and my current computer isn't good enough to run the demo (isn't that sad?)...but in the meantime, while I build up funds and equipment for a really solid home studio, I've decided to buy myself a legal copy of reason 2.0 and an oxygen8 midi controller and make some soundtrack/electronica style music. anyway, my question is, can reason's sequencer record source audio, like an acoustic guitar plugged into the computer's line in jack? or would I have to record the part in another program and import it to the sampler or sequencer in order to get some outside part like that in? (if I even wanted to)...thanks!

BTW...I know my computer wont run reason if I can't run the demo :P I'm getting a new puter.

Just my thoughts.

I have been to the website like you most probably have,
there's nothing I've come accross that says you can record
any audio waves to add to your midi, sampled or looped tracks.
You can surely sample sounds or make loops, but I think
using Reason with another integrated midi and audio multitrack
program is the only way to go. That's just it , they say it's a
complete music workstation, or something to that effect,
but I think it's just the best software synth there is to date.
Not the complete solution idea that they're trying to sell.
You might find a wave recording device somewhere, but
If your needs are more demanding it might not do. I hope
They come up with a multitracker integrated into Reason,
now that would be great wouldn't it. Man if they could make it
as mean and lean as Cool Edit these guys would probably
bump off a lot of DAW makers aside.

that's all dude.

nope

Reason can't record audio directly, say from a mic or a guitar. It can record midi live however. You could, as you said, record it elsewhere and import it as a sample, but you might not get the sounds to line up correctly. A more likely way is to get the sound structure down in reason, export it as a wav/aiff file and then import that into a recording program (say sonar or logic), then overlay your guitar or vocals.

I support your decision to buy this sucker. It's probably the most well designed piece of software I've toyed with yet.

thanks guys...and yeah...it would be incredible if they could put in a mean little multitracker into it. so I get a software suite of reason, recycle, rebirth and fruityloops (since I already have both of those), and a multitracker would be the best way to go.
