If I doubleposted, I apologize now...I think my request was interupted.

Am I totally missing out on something? I've been reading all over the internet about how great Reason is and I've got Reason adapted. I started tinkering with it some tonight just to see what it can do...and I really don't understand the benefits of it I guess.

Does anybody here use it? If so, for what?

Anything I should know?

Hey sixways,

I have Reason 3.0 and use it often.

If your not familiar with Reason or know realy what it is I'll give ya short break down.

Reason is a Synth studio basicly.
I has a Rack of synths and a Sequencer to record your midi performances.
So each track has its own synth or device.

Its kind of like having a Korg Triton but with a bigger screen and its much easier to use(my opinion anyway).

So realy Reason replaces the hardware synths of yester year(sorry old school synth guys).

Anyway I am sure other guys can elaborate further if this is not helpfull.

Dig into the help file and such that comes with adapted if your lost.
the easyest device to get into is the Re-Drum. Hit run and start ticking the 16 buttons to create a pattern. FUN AS HECK!

download the pdf. and read it. i can promise it goes deepe than you know right now. Im really tired, excuse the spelling and punctuation.

Well said, boss!

So yes, Reason is basically a software that contain racks of virtual soft synths. It is unlimited as to how much synths you are willing to use. So basically say that you have 50 synths(thats crazy!), but the mixer only has 14 channels. You can add another mixer to your rack and connect your synths there. How easy! and Reason 3.0 is great...especially cause of the Combinator. I don't really use it since i don't require it, but if you are a techno producer, you will tend to fall in love with it. It's basically a combination of several devices inserted and controlled by one dedicated device. So anyways, it's your choice. Reason rocks!

Plus the new line mixer in reason is helpfull.

Major dif between adapted and full is the fact that you only get a few devices and thats it.

Full vesion you get as many as your machine will handle. My Celleron 2.4ghz with 640mb will run a ton of synths and effects.
Reason is pretty easy on the CPU.

For me it was very worth it.

What type of music are you working on? I mean genre ect.

It covers alot of bases, I learned it at a friends house and now feal very very comfortable using it.

I would say try to get good at using Adapted first and learn the ins and outs and look things up as far as tutorials online.

If then you feel you like it and know it and its worthwhile to you then, Yeah upgrade.
Thats exactly what I did and I have to say I am glad I did. Reason 3.0 and SOnar 3.0 have been the best software buys I ever made.

Ah! And one more thing.

Place your mouse over the bottum right screw on the subtractor synth, hold the left button and drag to watch the screw fall out.

Just the silly stuff Propellerheads does I guess. Their Easter Egg!

99% of the stuff I do uses Reason these days... Listen to some of my stuff. I know it sounds mostly hiphop and technoish... But that is because I chose that direction to go with Reason... Many other things are possible...

P.S. This is a more advanced topic...but...One thing that I couldn't get through my skull when I started...Reason doesn't have tracks for "live" audio.. Like, say, Cubase does.... If you want "live" audio with your Reason audio... Lookup ReWire...

Good Luck!

I to at times use Reason with Sonar so I can add audio tracks or Vst synths to my reason tracks.

Oh and a realy cool feature of the full version is the rebirth input device.
it alows you to sync Rebirth to Reason for more synth Phat-a-tude.
Oh and Rebirth is free now.
Get it here:
http://rebirthmuseum.com/

Heres a link to a song I did compleatly in Reason 3.0:

I imported the vocal samples into re-drum and then triggered em from my controller.

fun stuff!

I also use ABleton Live along with reason.

This a cool setup as that you can trigger things in ableton to play ect ect.

Its a nice combo, oh and you can re-sample audio from reason and trigger the loop of it too.

WAIT! This is my 250th post! Yippy! I get a new Avitar!
