Reason 3.0

I am very new to all of this, and I stumbled upon Reason 3.0 and downloaded the demo and it seemed very good. I want to create music similar to that of Nine Inch Nails, and am curious if this is the best program out their in the 400 dollar price range for creating this kind of music? Is there any other programs around that price I should check out? Thanks.
