Hello

I put together a new computer with RealTech on board audio. I am planning to buy an M-Audio Fast TRack Pro interface. I also have the Roland VST DXI intalled.
Does the RealTeck have anything to do with the sound in and out of the Fast Track Pro?
Is the software from the Ableton software sampling and storing the music and playing it back?
What part can the Roland VST DXI play in the recording and playback with the fast Track Pro?
Do I have a choice from all three options from the control panel on windows XP?

Once you get the M-Audio, you won't need the realtek soundcard. Use it for your windows stuff if you'd like.

I'm not familiar with Ableton, but if it's anything like the all the other DAW's (Cubase, Sonar, ProTools) it will record from and play back your audio through the M-Audio once you get it set up. The Roland VST needs to run within a DAW like Ableton. You will be able to hear it through the M-Audio just like all your other tracks.

You can use the M-Audio for your windows sounds if you'd like. It will show up in the list of audio hardware in your control panel.

Excuse me for saying, but these are very basic questions you're asking. I suggest browsing and searching through the newbies section here at homerecording.com. Also check out the Tweak's Guide at:

It's very thorough and will get you up to speed quickly.

I did search through the board and did not find an answer like the one you provided for me.
On my old computer, I had a Delta 66 card with Omni/IO setup and it worked fine. The only problem that I had was that the Neutriks connectors were noisy because the 1/4 inch plugs did not make firm contact. I bought the interface off Ebay and maybe the Neutriks connectors are worn out.
On my new computer I have a quad core processor and a Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P board with RealTek audio on board.
I loaded my old Sonar 6 software and when I imported a WAV file and played it, I had quite a few random pops in the playback. I increased the buffers from 2 to 4 and the pops reduced by half.
Is this common with RealTek on board audio?
I'm not sure wether to replace the neutriks connectors in the Omni/IO breakout box or go with a new system like the MAudio FastTrak Pro. Neutriks connectors are a big job to replace.
Any opinions?

The soundcard on your computer doesn't use ASIO drivers to interface with your DAW. ASIO drivers are what make the interaction between your interface and DAW work smoothly. You can try ASIO4ALL (google it) if adamant about using your soundcard.

If you're handy with a screw driver and soldering iron, you can change out those Nuetriks yourself. You might even be able to access the prongs inside and tighten them up. I have never taken one apart, so I don't know if you can acutally do that. But other style connectors, it's an easy matter.

Hey, what happened with your other username? You should have only one username.

Peace.

Thanks Chili

With a bookfull of usernames, I made a mistake and registered twice on this foum. Mistake is corrected and I am now using dben.

I am an electronics tech and I ooked at the neutriks connectors and it is a big job to change them plus they are expensive for us here in Canada.

I will buy the M-audio USB Fast Track and try it out. I am only recording one track with my guitar anyway with a prerecorded rhythm track so that should more than do it.

Thanks for your help
