ok i have been searching a lot in home studio to see if there is some way to select either a L or R channel in one track and move it to its own separate track... does anyone know how to do this or know if it is possible other than recording the L or R channel into a new track?
thanks

Not quite I sure I understand what you're asking but yes, as far as I know any soundcard worth its salt will offer you a choice of recording a mono track off the L or R input, or a stereo L/R track. Oh.. do you mean after it's recorded? You want to separate the L and R sides of a previously recorded stero track? No, I don't see a simple way to do this within SONAR. It's standard stuff in an audio editor like Sound Forge...

Like AlChuck said, open the WAV file in SoundForge or your preferred editor, highlight the left side of the WAV.>copy>new>paste>save. Then, highlight the right side of the WAV.>copy>new>paste>save. Now you will have a mono left WAV. and a mono right WAV.

Now IMPORT them back into Cake (file>import>audio).

thanks... bummer you cant do it directly in cakewalk but as long as it gets done.

thanks guys :)

I have a JVC cd recorder/player that is really cool. It is a JVC XL-R5020BX....3 player drawers...but they make one with just one player drawer and one burner...that would be better....I seldom use but one drawer. Just copy the I.D. above into google and you can find info. on it. The one drawer unit you will have to search for.

The beauty of this unit is that it hooks right up to your mixer via RCA. I use a Yamaha stereo powerd mixer. Just plug your instruments into your mixer and and set the JVC input method (the JVC lets you burn a cd from cd to cd...or cd + line....or just line...or line mic. etc. ) Check it out. It has little editing capabilities...so there is no way to really get in there and fix mistakes. The price is under $400. The cd-recording quality is good.

I have had a blast with my unit. I play mostly by myself...hm...don't take that the wrong way... But then I can take that initial recorded cd....and play again....using CD + Line....and thus presto...I have a cd of two of me playing. This process can be repeated.

Just set up your band thru you mixer...hook up the JVC...takes digital audio cds....hit record and when you are done you will have a demo. Hopes this helps....cF

I don't know about Home Studio, but in Sonar you can take a selected audio clip, click Edit, Bounce to Track, and under the Format tab you can select Mix to Separate Left and Right Tracks.

I'm honestly surprised no one has directed him to the Cakewalk forum yet. All questions answered within 30 seconds or it's free!
