Hi guys,

I love my Audiofire 4, but I have a constant problem when upgrading (as well as original installation of) the drivers. The process invariably hangs up when the install window gets to "installing DPinst.exe /sw /sf /something or other" When I say hang up - I mean REALLY hang up....up to 5 hours of letting it just sit there and stew. This has happened every single time I've tried to upgrade the drivers. Sometimes I'm successful by uninstalling the AF4, juryrigging the driver (i.e. expanding the .exe and then just randomly double-clicking stuff), etc. - but trying to do the 4.8 drivers has completely hung up with no success.

I don't understand how driver installation and update could be so tough....it seems so pedantic.

Any help? I've written Echo about the problem - but no response as yet.

Thanks,
Jay

I would try Totally unpluging the audiofire and then totally remove the Driver from your PC, even remove any registry entries and any Files that might be left over from the driver install...Then Restart your PC and install the new driver ,after it installs (If it installs) restart your PC again and then plug in the audio fire.... Hopefully this will work....

Good luck

:D

Ok

I will try that as well.....at this point I've scoured the registry, deleted everything about echo audio I could find throughout the hard drive, and made sure no mention is made about the device in hardware manager.

Let's hope it helps - I still have received no help from Echo (first day, though, I'm sure they'll come through).

Well maybe there is are some Corrupt files or someother thing that is causeing your system to freeze up when installing....Maybe back up all the info you can and try reinstalling windows and then install the driver ,that way you have a pristene and fresh install and any problems if you do encounter them can then be directly attributed to the Driver and not your system...Or you can just see if you can wait to see if echo get back to you.....

Good luck

Minion for trying to help. But I'm deployed in Iraq right now, and I don't have the time or resources to do major surgery on the laptop....I definitely don't have the internet connection to redownload and reinstall all the other programs on the computer either - so I'll have to pass on this option.

I'll wait for Echo on this one.

Ha!

Flip the laptop on it's side... then shake vigorously... and watch the sand pour out

That's so true - I've had to really be careful about where and how I use this thing.

In any case - here's an update - Matt at Echo built an installer for the 4.8 drivers that uses a different vehicle than Microsoft's DPinst.exe vehicle. It worked like a champ with absolutely no problems, so obviously something with the dpinstaller doesn't like my laptop.

In any case - problem solved by excellent customer service at Echo!!!
