Real-Time Software Mixer?

i've got at project at work where i need to control an audio mixer (volumes and muting) by MIDI or with software.
does anyone know of either a MIDI controlled Hardware mixer or a Software Mixer (prefered) with low latency and that has MIDI control.

i'm thinking that maybe ASIO drivers with some DAW Recording software may work. any suggestions on a SW package that may fit the bill?

yamaha 01v's, 02r's, o3r's, all automated hardware mixers. tascam td1000 is about £400. higher up, mackie d8b, £7000.
