yea i tried to follow it and was like wtf. it seems like some stuff was posted that probably shouldnt have been posted then removed

Yeah, it was kind of like what we were talking about earlier yo.

Ya, it's was like wtf..... But, it's funny to me now. But, what gives? It changed the importance of the topic...

You spit some good wisdom Fieva.

So I peeped that the thread was edited at strange times all over the thread. That's why you log out so people can't mess with your stuff.

Hey Fam peritus. Where you at? Help us out...

Me personally, I think if you're going to say something in person or on the phone, you can't take it back...same goes for here.

Peritus, if you're scared of the deal with the devil that you might have made, then you may want to rethink your business strategies and be careful who you do business with.

Don't be fooled by equipment, money, greed, and someone's say so (it can get you into sticky situations sometimes). Get to know who you roll with first homie....and that's real.

Fiev.

BTW Beats has some solid business tips or so I hear, we might have to sit down and brainstorm ideas around...we both might learn a few new tricks.

You a cool dude Fieva...

One good bussiness strategy is if someone wants to work or intern for your company. Make a 90 day review contract. Put in the contract duties that must be done. Studio, making runs, and so on, being on time... Put in the contract that if any of the terms and duties can not be fulfilled, the contract gets terminated. Don't give out all the ins and outs on your company right off the top.

I feel the benefit of this forum is to learn. So if you did get hit with something bad then posting about it helps others be aware to stear clear of it. I mean you wouldnt let your brother mary the town whore if you could stop him would you. I got jacked for a track idea which was used in a pontiac comercial, got jacked for another one that was posted by some other cat as well. I posted in here so cats could see and beware and learn. In return for opening in here I have received plenty of advice on how to protect myself from this kind of thing right here. I just would have liked to know what the whole post was about because it sounded like a good lesson to learn from. Hell we all make mistakes. The key is to not keep making the same ones. And as Beats Buy says "tons of knowledge is useless if you dont past it on to the next". The same goes for experiences.

Although, it appears I have lost a great deal of respect for over one situation.. I might as well explain the whole deal....

Some guy contacted me on MySpace.. He's local.. Wanted to know if I wanted to "make some ends" recording.

Okay....

So, I contacted him... Seemed harmless, at the time....

He asked me what kinda skills I had.. I tried to be realistic about the whole thing and listed what things I am comfortable with...

Then, I was messaged with a "business proposition". Not a formal one, mind you, but a message that included the lines "we need help recording digitally" and "come through, see how we're living and say no" or "help us figure this out and build a market"...

I'm not sure what you'd do, people... I'm not kidding though, it didn't sound all that strange... MAYBE, with the exception of the listed equipment.. As you probably noticed in the other thread...

Look ya'll I need to go... I'll be back and add to this... Just know that I never intended to hide the info from the guys I know around here.. I made a few bad decisions, in the past few days.. Here and elsewhere... Please be patient and I'll explain... That's not to say, that I will claim innocence...

Thanks to all my peeps...

Joshua

Contrary to popular belief.. I haven't really made a deal on anything...

No shaking hands.. No contracts.. No signature...

All I did was show up and answer a few questions about how to record, room accoustics, equipment, multitrack recording, etc..

I felt like it was all good.. At the same time, I wanted to be cautious...

When the money was talked about, as you should have read in my other thread, I oringally wanted some... This was because, I intended to build up this project studio.. And, quite honestly, there are many talented people involved in this clique...

Now, I am a little more in tune to what the real situation is... I would like to be specific about the whole thing, but I won't and if you want to know, PM me and I'll tell you... For one, I am not a snitch, by any means.. On the other, anyone here, who I trust and respect, I will at least explain why I am a little spooked about the whole thing...

Which is the reason for my original Suge thread.. Fiev caught on (thanks bud)..

So.. As it stands today, I have confided in a few of my mentors (here and elsewhere), this thread, is a component of that confidence.. Which, as it has been pointed out, is no way to discuss these topics... Yes.. I am wrong in discussing this here, to a degree.. At the same time, this is an important matter...

I am not spooked from a financial perspective.. My concern is my professional freedom.. I do not want to get too deep into these peoples' business.. I have no intention of entering the inner circle of anything..

If you've ever seen the movie Godfather than you're aware of "an offer he can't refuse".. As pussyfied and dramatic as it would seem, for me to apply that terminology to the current situation, I feel that I am on the receiving end of just such an "offer"....

Please ask questions, and I'll be glad to fill in the blanks..

All in all, I can be honest in saying..

1. I'm was naiive...

2. I was stupid and rude to discuss this situation from the get go (see the "To My HomeRec'ers" thread...

3. I do not intend to be scared of this situation...

4. My future intention (which I've shared, verbally) with the "main dude", is to advise them on the purchase of their equipment and to teach them to use it themselves, free of charge...

5. To, ultimately, go back to my normal quest for a job in a regular studio (not a project studio), unless I start a project studio, on my own..

Thank you...

Joshua

Ok so you didn't formally agree to anything. That's good. But now you're just wanting to make sure that all you're doing is giving advice and nothing more. That's cool. Here's what you do.

If you want to be helpful and give advice, do that. Just tell them that you feel that as a musician who learned from advice of others you feel that sometimes you have to give some of that knowledge back, but just enough for the next cat to make his own sound and not just a carbon copy of yours. That's how I've been for years personally. Most new folks would just be glad you're helping them get started and not putting a price tag on it.

If dude makes a deal and you don't feel comfortable about it, just say no. You can always say "I just do this for a hobby" or "I am already pursuing my own company, maybe we could do business from your company to mine once I get set up".

I've used both of those and had no problem from the receiving end, even with shady characters. You present fear and they'll read it like a dog can smell it. You hold your ground without showing emotion and they'll respect that, that's how a businessman does business. People see fear and they use it to run you. Hold your ground and don't get into anything you wouldn't do with a clear head and you should be all good.

Fiev.

i fully understand wats going on

fiev is right just do you man, cause if its wat im grasping is your problem then they all want to just make good music to move with and thats where you can build your own reasons for leaving/staying/rolling with your "clients".

don't look at the situation from your point of view, look at it from ours, you'll definitely see a solution to your problem!
