Hi folks, this past summer I bought a Yamaha DTXPRESS III not knowing that the "special" version even existed, had I known I definitely would have spent the extra cash on the "special". I've always loved listening to the drums in my favourite tunes but had never even hit one before purchasing this kit.

I'm coming along, I should take lessons but I haven't, and I have written a ton of songs that I want to start putting together on the crap recording program I bought for my PC. I've been playing guitar and bass for many years and know how to record that stuff without any problem, but how do I plug this kit into my computer to get my recording program to recognize it? Do I need a particular program or should you be able to plug this kit in and record with any program? I use a really old, really basic version of "Magix", but it does what I want it to do and I understand it.

What do I need in terms of cables? I'm really excited to get started, I lost my manuals in a move this fall, I've emailed Yamaha for help but haven't heard anything yet...

How do I do this? (i'm not real tech-y so go easy on me).

Thanks!

Thanks, I downloaded it. It really doesn't help me at all. I have next to no idea what they're talking about. I mean, why can't it just say "connect this to this, do this and this, press this and press that, and presto-chango you're recording" ????

Maybe there's a guy in town who will let me pay him too much money to set it up for me...thanks Yamaha...

how do you record you guitar and bass ?
does the yamah have any audio out puts ?
my td3 has a headphones output and left and right(stero pair)out
the yamaha should have the same
so you either want a jack socket cable from the headphones socket(big jack) to your pc's sound card(little jack)
or a cable that is stero jacks(two jacks)to one smaller jack to plug into your sound card.
this all depends on your soundcards in and out sockets so i am taking it that it is a standard audio card that came with the computer.

set your audio software to record the input on your soundcard press record and beat the drums

...

generally the way you would ideally record such a drumkit is with the midi output. you need a soundcard on your computer with MIDI connectors. so you plug midi out from drums, to midi in on PC. then in your recording program you need to use a VST drumkit plugin to assign samples to the drums.

This gives you the most control over the sound and mixing.

otherwise you are very limited, both to the sounds that are included with the drum module, and the way you can record it and control the mix after (very poorly, since you can only output a stereo mix)

I suggest a program better than your old copy of magix.. try cockos reaper, it's free to try (and not time limited) and very powerful.
