The truth is out there!
Ok, I have a focusrite saffire pro 40 and I've been using some active monitors for a while. I just use 1/4in to 1/4in speaker cables.

Now I have some passive monitors and an amp that only has RCA inputs and the focusrite only has 1/4in outputs. I can build cables if I need, but can I build a 1/4in to RCA cable? What about balance?

Also, there're two headphone jacks on my interface, could I make a 1/4 split to RCA and connect that to the amps input? That would be ideal so I can run both sets of monitors and have volumes on the front.

would the SPDIF outputs be of any use?

I'm kinda confused. Thanks!

It probably isn't a great idea to run a headphone output into an amp. If the amp's designed for line level, then a headphone out will be too hot for it.

Spdif is a digital stereo stream, so that's no use.

You can use an unbalanced cable if you want.
What would have been the ring on the jack just gets grounded.

Be prepared though. You could end up with hums and noises getting picked up.

What about if I use a balanced cable? would that fix the humms or would that be a mess?

thanks!

Awesome thanks! I built some 1/4in RCA cables using that site this morning. Works great...I used #10!
