Hi, this is the first mix that im doing for a local band in my city. Its of pop rock genre. The vocal take hasnt been done yet. So im posting the song without the vocals. This is not really the final mix and its not mastered. Please feel free to point out whatever sounds good or bad to you so that i can make improvements.

And the bass take was really sloppy. Really bad playing with old strings. I have the asked the band do a retake with a better bass.

Guitars sound fine. The reverb/delay gives it a bit of the U2 feel. Something is amiss with the drums. Sounds like the high hat has some kind of compression/gate effect that makes it sound unnatural to me. Don't really hear the kick. Need the opinion of some of the drum experts here to more clearly articulate what it is I'm hearing.

I agree with the hi hat. It sound compressed. The kick can come up. The cymbal in the right ear sounds a bit funky too. Cool guitar sound. The bass can use a bit more compression. Other than that, I think it sounds pretty good.

Thanks for your comments. Ya even i agree about the hi-hat and the cymbal thing. No compression is going there, maybe i have to do a bit of eq. I will be doing the vocals today in the studio. I will post another mix with the vocals tonight. Meanwhile any other suggestions are welcome.

Ok here is a mixed and mastered version with the full song. Let me know how it can be improved.
Something that i havent been able to achieve yet is the vocal compression which isnt uniform throughout the song. And the vocal sounds low when listened with the headphones on but ok when listened with speakers. Which should be my reference?

Great tune/mix. I think the vocals fade when the guitar gets into the verses. The vocals are good in the chorus/bridge. Could be an eq or fader riding thing to fix (same notes / frequencies crossing paths). Sounds pretty pro in any case....
