So, I'm about to start buying computer components to build my new recording computer. My roommate is a computer builder, so I'm having him double check everything for compatibility, but I thought I'd run it up the flagpole here and see if anybody sees any glaring inconsistencies, unnecessary bits, definite mistakes, whatnot. I'm kinda throwin darts at the wall here, so if anybody sees any parts they know have problems, let me know.

I'll be adding another hard drive in there. Ultimately plan on recording up to eight tracks at once, dunno how many I'll be mixing at once, but let's say it's gonna be lots.

Planning on getting either a MOTU 8-pre or a Focusrite Saffire pro 40 as my interface/soundcard.

So, did I forget a doodad or a gizmo? Am I good to go?

should be fine...

if it was a Pentium processor, I would of been cautious of compatibility problems with some DAWs, but that's not a major problem these days.

Thanks, Lee.
A thing I've been wondering about is firewire ports. My buddy who's building it said they're usually part of the motherboard (or something like that). Is that right? Do i need to buy some different component to ensure I'm getting the most out of my firewire device? Am I overthinking it?

Check to see what chipset the FireWire ports on the motherboard use. The most reliable ones that work with audio interfaces are the ones using Texas Instruments chipsets.

Sweet. Looked it up Wrecks, it is a TI chip, thanks for the help.

Looks pretty good. I would personally check out a Corsair PSU also though. Most silent I've ever heard. :)
