I'm a solo rapper. I really only need 1 channel for 1 mic. I'm tryna figure out which interface would be best for me. Of course i want good quality and no latency. Does anyone have any advice on the best interface or sound card i could find for this?

firewire solo, by m audio perhaps, but i would also look at what focusrite has to offer

The M-Audio Fast Track II is a nice investment as it will work with whatever DAW you have right now and it will work with ProTools M-Powered! Also you might check out the Focusrite Saffire 6 usb interface it has 2 inputs but the preamps are well worth the investment!

Cheers,
Nicholas

You also need to consider how you want to create your beats. If you intend to do everything in the box, then yes, you only need one channel in. But if you intend to do ANYTHING outside of the box, I'd recommend getting more channels. Interfaces are inexpensive enough that getting a few lines in isn't that much more expensive that going with only one channel.

I'll get the beats from the internet.
i also want it 2 use 2.0 usb

I've seen some great reviews of this:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/One/

I'm pretty sure (but not 100%, check around) that it's mac only, so if you're on a PC you might look elsewhere.

But the converters, preamp and general quality on this thing will likely be pretty damn good.

If you're on a PC, I might look into a focusrite product such as:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Saff6USB/

based entirely on my own entirely positive experiences with focurite products.

Another way to go might be a relatively cheap interface that doesn't have preamps, such as this:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Audiophile2496/

coupled with a high quality dedicated preamp.

Since you're only dealing with one channel at a time, it'll be worth it to get that one channel as high quality as you can.

The Golden Age Pre-73 is a pretty darn good single channel preamp that you could use with that m-audio.
If you're looking to spend less than what the Pre-73 costs on a preamp in combination with an interface, then skip it and just get an interface with a preamp on it.

This has been a big help. In the reviews that i've read, latency is always an issue. Does any1 know of any other good interfaces that have low/no latency and is usb 2.0

tascam usb 2.0 interface
just look that up on amazon.com

I know I'm contradicting myself but....Presonus Firebox or Focusrite Saffire 6?

I would suggest getting a interface with at least MIDI IN/out! Why? because if you decide to further yourself and make your own beats you can get any MIDI keyboard and use it on any program. Just a thought. If not I would suggest a usb interface like you said. I myself own a fast track pro and its decent. Latency can be kept to a min and its got some decent preamps in it.

This type of interface seems to be a favorite amongst rappers.

Firebox was my first. I also record hip hop and I loved it. Tell the damn firewire stop sync. But it was also bought used and died at 5 years old
