Random noise on playback

Greetings,

I have a head-scratcher here and hopefully you folks might have some ideas.

I record to my computer with the SeaSound Solo, which has worked great since I bought it. Last week I added the Solo Expander to increase the numbers of ins and outs.

Now I hear pops on playback. I get it in any application: Cakewalk, Cool Edit Pro. The pops are not in the source material, because they do not repeat (each time on playback the pops are different), and I hear them when playing back older material that I know is clean.

At first, I thought it was a memory issue since adding the Expander meant I was laying down more tracks simultaneously. But then I realized the noise occurs on playback, randomly, and when playing back old stuff that is clean as a whistle.

I hear it through open speakers as well as headphones, both of which are coming from the Solo outs.

Memory settings are the way they should be, all video acceleration is off, my system tray is empty, and the disk has plenty of space.

Any ideas?

P.S. One thing I have not tried yet is running a non-computer source, like a CD player, through the Solo and see if that generates pops. If it does or does not make the noise, what might that tell me?

Thanks,
Trumpetman.

get another soundcard while you can get some money out of yours.....it's important to have a soundcard with driver updates.
