Wes...Of course I remember you. Dou you know that, right
now, the VM100 is being re-designed to come out as the RTT
MKL100, like a smaller Bottle mic (see our MKL101). Oktava
(the main plant) may or may Not bring back the original
VM100 design, but right now there are no plans.....so......
in truth...you now own a collector's item worth over $1,500.
If I had known this was going to happen, I would have bought
2 extra VM100's just for myself!!!

OK...now back to the cable..

Here's the scoop...I LOVE the RamTech FLEX 2000 cable. I
have used it in my own studio, Audiomation in Las Vegas, The
HOME offices/workspaces and studio for Innovative Quality
Software (IQS) - the makers of SAW and SAWPro software,
Vegas and New York shows & tours, etc. Great stuff.
I like it better than Canare Star Quad ( it is smaller)
except, of course when you are running near VHS or Super VHS
monitor lead lines - then you need the monster shielding of
the star-quad stuff - but other wise that star-quad is a
pain to work with.

I like the Mogami series console cable, but it does not
sound as "warm" as the FLEX 2000. I've used a TON of the
Belden. Good, easy to work with, over-priced, no
personality...it works a hell of a lot better than HOSA or
HORIZON, of course, but....well...it's fine....but......
I re-wired my own studio with the RAMTECH and ...Jesus, it
was like getting all new Power amps and crossovers. Suddenly
all of the vocal material coming out of my Events, Altecs
and Fraziers was more "up front", yet warm and "correct"
sounding. The imaging was better - there was real
smoothness. Like changing A/D converters or something...WAY
COOL!!! I FLIPPED OUT!! I love this stuff and I recommend it
to anyone and everyone.

The big problem is this... I love the stuff, but Lawrence
(Ramtech owner & chief engineer) has not sold me any cable
reels for 4 months or more. He says ...."hey man..I just
can't seem to get it in"........
Ok ..this is what I have done. I am working with 2 different
cable companies in the US to produce my OWN cable that is
basically identical, but with a few upscale mods (more
twists in the drain wire and more stranding in the main
wires). It won't be out for 6 weeks. I need what RAMTECH I
have here to run tests against my new stuff.

THAT's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

RE: Thanks for your work on this. I'll be interested in what Taylor comes up with and what the price will be. At .35 per foot, the RAMTECH is/was very attractive, especially since I wouldn't have to buy a 500ft roll like with Star Quad. I'll contact Taylor in 6-8 weeks to see what he's come up with. Perhaps he'll let you run a test on the new stuff once he's procured it, if you are interested. Thanks again for you assistance.

BTW, I noticed while at the Sound Room that Taylor sells the MC012 preamp body for $124. So I'm guessing a person could buy the preamp body and the M1/M3 large diaphragm head for $349 and have one helluva mic for $473. Is this a good deal?
