Hi everyone,

I am trying to troubleshoot an old WR-T820.
It appears that this is a pretty good console used in a lot of studios in the 80's, and you guys seem to be very knowledgable with high end studio consoles.
It worked fine untill it was moved. It was stored on its side, in a corner, for over a year, and now we cant get it to work.
If there is anyone here that knows a little about these consoles can you give me your thoughts on this issue?

I cant seem to get anything but a VERY low output signal from any of the inputs. I have tried routing to subgroup outs, and to the main L/R outputs, and I have to CRANK the gain wide open to get a barely audiable signal.

I can PFL the input and I get good signal to the meter, so I believe the signal is getting to the preamps ok.

Are the green lights next to the on buttons "on indicators", or are they "signal indictors"? I figure they are signal indicators because they dont come on when I "un-mute" the input.

Here is the strange thing, I can push the gain up wide open, to where it maxes out the meter when I PFL it, but I dont get any signal indicaton or clip indication on the green or red lights near the fader. Shouldnt the green light be flickering? Also, nothing lights up on the meter bridge.

How is it that, on every channel, the signal gets lost somewhere between the preamp and the fader?
This seems like there should be a logical expliantion...

I dont know a lot about repair on consoles, is there anything internally that could be loose that would effect all the channels in this way?

Would I be correct in my assesment that the signal is getting lost between the preamp and the channel fader?

well you should be searchin the web for a user manual and perhaps a pdf of the service manual... in lieu of a manual you'l need to to start at the power supply making sure all the voltages are present... then start working in the master section and work your way backwards to the channels...

I've looked everywhere online for a pdf manual or service manual (not the first time I've tried this) and am coming up with nothing...

I did read somewhere that all the channel strips share a common ground to the chassis. So that might be something to look into...

I still am wondering about the signal and peak lights... Its hard to believe that I can run a very hot source into the channel, crank the gain wide open, and crank the fader wide open and dont get anything from the peak or signal lights...
Or is that green light an "on" light? I dunno... I cant find anyone that can tell me...
But this leads me to believe that the issue is NOT in the master section, but more likely to be something shared between all the input channels....

Power supply? Maybe... That sounds like it could potentially be a "common link" as well...

the reason i suggested the master section is you didn't say the problem was only a channel or two... it's got global issues... and since usually everything sums to the master and power often is distributed through the master thats the place to start... do you have an oscilloscope and know how to use it??? BTW this should have gone in the DIY forum... ya may want to consider starting a new one over there... have you check fuses in the power supply??? not to rag on you but what kinda background do you have in electronics??? are ya sure your up to this???

My Ramsa WR-S4424 that I just picked up has the same issue. I can't get anything on the Master L-R Bus. The only time I get a signal is through PFL.

adessmith. Did you ever solve this issue?
