I've been looking into mixers for a while and have narrowed it down to the Soundcraft M12 and an old Ramsa WRT 820 console I can pick up locally for $750.

I'm leaning toward the Ramsa for it's 8 busses, preamps, 20 channels, and honestly the appeal of older analog circuitry. I know/trust the guy who runs the shop selling it, and he knows the guy he got the board from, but there's still the question of a 20 year-piece of gear deciding to take a crap on me.

Before I buy this thing, are there any reasons why anyone thinks I should not?

thanks

Id go for the Ramsa wr-t820 for $750 if its working. Its a great mixer, listed for around 8 or 9 grand new. I did a few demo's and some of my own stuff on one of these in the late 80's. Nice pre's and eq's are great. Faders have a nice feel to them and they have all that ya need. The only drawback to me is the fader share on the last couple of faders. This console is typically still going for $1250 up to $3500 used. I wish I could afford it myself right now.

You know, all the outputs on the Ramsa are RCA. Most are -10, but the board says that the main set of outs are +4. Since when are RCA's +4?

Id think you would know that alot of +4 consoles have rca outs somewhere. ===> <=== Just kidding....Its not uncommon for combining balanced and unbalanced I/O's for various things. Check around and see for yourself how common it really is. I worked on a console that had darn near satellite hookup...

I've only worked on one RAMSA and I hated it. Maybe it was a lemon, but just about every channel went bad in the course of 5 years. It wasn't any better sounding than any other analog mixer I've worked with. Older analog doesn't mean better sounding analog....

The Ramsa is beautiful board. But I love the faders on that thing.
