I will start putting togather my notes, so I can post as soon as possible.
I wanted to make a comment thread on the winner-runner-up mixes....to discuss some of the things that made them a bit more ready or polished to our ears. Look in Rami's place in the winner's thread for that.
Edit: Rami has already posted a thread at his place for the Winners/runner-ups to post how they mixed.
What was it about those, that stood out, even if only a tad bit...more than the others?...and whatever else you guys want to discuss!
This is a thread, for everyone to discuss ALL of the mixes. For instance, what were the factors on the first listens, that brought us to our preliminaries and so on. I think it would add to the learning experience. It would also be helpful to others, who happen along to read it.
Having this discussion thread, would also give some insight as to what the ears are wanting to hear. I don't think, it is just a matter of taste as I once did.
All three of the judges, each basically play a different genre of music. All three, used a different method of grading the mixes.(as far as I know)...Yet most of our choices were right on mark togather....with the exception of a few mixes. Even if we had chosen mixes for different category or placement...the point is ....we were choosing the same mixes so often, it was uncanny...why? What exactly was it that these judges were all three hearing? This will be a very informative and interesting thread!!!
I am sad all could not win a prize, but I am very happy at the learning that has come from this, and is still to come!!
I will admit, that in several instances, I almost fipped a coin!!
I didn't though. I just kept listening and trying to hear every aspect of the song. Even to the emotion, that the mixing process gave or took away.
I will try to have my own comments ready by tomarrow night. I will post the winner/runner-up ones at Rami's thread in the winners thread and that will be open for discussion too.
Please feel free to ask me any questions on the method I used, or if you don't think my way was good or a fair way for some reason, then say so. We will discuss. I have never judged a contest before and this was quite the learning experience. I now have a lot more insight of guidelines, rules, criteria and the such, that make it a better contest. I will be open and honest with you guys. I also will be posting some of the changes of guidelines that may have occurred during the judging process, because it was fairer or more indepth.
I will share some of the strange methods, I used to judge these mixes!!
Feel free to comment on them when I do, as to whether you think they are a valid method of listening.
Please don't think for a second, that it changed whom was chosen. It may have changed how they were chosen and at one point gave others a chance to win also. Forgive me for any boo-boo's made. It would be of my blunder, not the other judges. I do not know if judge #2-The red judge
.... is going to remain anonymous or not, but that is there choice and I will respect that choice. They are qualified to judge this contest though. Much more that I. So is Gerry-judge #1-The blue judge.
I can't thank them enough for helping in this. I also breathed much smoother, once I saw my selections matched theirs...I didn't feel quite so dumb!!
And I was re-assured that you guys would get a fair judging. Oh, I am judge #3-The purple judge!!!
Once again...I love you guys!!!
