I'm lost. Can someone give me directions to rain and thunder patches in the world of midi modules. Thanks

General Midi Sound 233 Thunder - Sounds like thunder

General Midi Sound 222 Rain - Sounds like rain

You might add a little of the following sounds at low level for variety:

General Midi Sound 247 - Applause - Sounds like rain, especially in lower registers.

General Midi Sound 255 Explosion - Sounds like thunderclap, especially in lower registers - just add reverb.

Look for any module that supports GM = General Midi, or even a sound card.

Rain and running water

Thanks for the reply.

What I'm looking for is my way back to some great rain and running water midi sounds (about 3 or 4 patches worth) that I stumbled on a few years ago while playing around with the instrument settings in Cakewalk. It was definitely a module selection that was not GM. Maybe it had something to do with my PCs Ensoniq sound card (that particular PC with sound card is long gone). I also recall one of the midi sounds of that patch table was an annoying "dog bark". Ring any bells?

lumbago, you must mean General MIDI (GM) level 2. Level 1 contains only 128 "canned" sound. Some synth manufacturer like Roland and Yamaha have their own GM spec called "GS" or "XG" which are extended version of GM with variations.

shadrach, if you need the sound for recording and you use PC based DAW with Creative cards, then you can get such sound using soundfonts. If you're now using newer version of Cakewalk (eg. Sonar or Homestudio) then you don't even have to use Creative card to play soundfonts. Either VSampler, Livesynth or Dyad DXi will play soundfonts. Do search info about soundfonts in Computer Recording forum or Cakewalk forum.

Adding soundfonts

Wow..I did the search in cakewalk forum and found you to be the great and powerful fontman. I've got the Pro Audio 9.0 with a Delta1010 soundcard. My first perusal through your posts didn't make adding soundfonts look idiot proof  , so I might be in trouble there. I'll take a deep breath and return. Maybe my next time through will be more profitable :o .

Thanks a lot.

Shad, looks like you found my ol' posts :) Unfortunately, Cake Pro 9 doesn't support DXi or Soft synth. But if I recall correctly, our very own BluesMeister could do soundfonts without SB cards with combo Cakewalk Pro 7 and VSampler 2.74. So, there's possibility it will run on Cake Pro 9! You can catch BluesMeister here in this bbs...
