I am NOT a Gear Whore. ;)
ive got my new powermac G5 all set up with my apps. i have a 160gb external hd too. i was thinking about putting a second internal drive in, probably a 10k Raptor.

questions:
1) i couldnt have two drives, one 7200 rpm and another 10k rpm, set up in RAID 0, right?

2) say i did set up two 10k drives- should i just do one system and one slave? i want to make the jump to 10k, if you havent caught on.

3) will PT LE let me do the RAID thing? i think they will as far as i've read.

4) will i have to re-install everything if i go RAID?

i've never used any RAID setup before, thats why i'm asking all these questions.

the hell with the search, no one ever asks questions about RAID here.

AFAIK, PT is not compatible with any sort of raid array

Hard Drive Requirements

* Recording to the system startup drive is not recommended or supported.
* Although limited recording and playback of audio tracks may be possible using the startup drive, one or more separate 7200 rpm or faster hard drive or drives dedicated for audio is required for maximum performance and track count.
* Pro Tools does not support RAID technology. Please do not activate this feature on any Pro Tools recording drives.

As to your other questions:

1) i couldnt have two drives, one 7200 rpm and another 10k rpm, set up in RAID 0, right?

Technically yes, but its not a good idea since your asking for trouble

2) say i did set up two 10k drives- should i just do one system and one slave? i want to make the jump to 10k, if you havent caught on.

Better idea for sure. Having a stripe as an everything drive is not better than having 2 drives on different channels

4) will i have to re-install everything if i go RAID?

Yes, its like installing a new drive. you possibly image the system first but I have no clue how that works on a mac

i think i'm going to leave it as a slave now that i think about it.

i think PT is compato with raid, but the website says it's not recommended, so that just shot that plan.

thats altitude. now locky lock so we can conserve bandwith!
