I just bought 5 new multi-purpose mics from RadioShack. They sound pretty good, so what's the problem with them?

Should I send them back?

Please help!

Thanks.

Radio Shack mics are NOT noted for being very good-sounding mics....... about the only thing lower in quality that I can think of are those $10 Wal-mart camcorder mics.....

I'd strongly consider returning them while you can and get some REAL mics -- I suggest Shure SM57s.....

the Radio Shack 33-3032 has gotten the thumbs up from Harvey Gerst for toms.....if they are in your budget and they sound good enough to you, by all means use them....we all started somewhere......im not far from Radio Shack mics myself......

Misanthropy,

This comment isn't directed straight to you, so I hope you don't take offense to this . . .

But has anyone else noticed how many people are coming to this board to affirm their purchase decisions? I can't tell you how many threads I've been reading lately about this guy buying the Blue Tube or that guy buying the dbx . . . and then they come here asking for the thumbs up or thumbs down on their purchases.

Look, if you want affirmation, call your mother. :) If you want to make wise purchases, then research your products BEFORE you buy them. Read the reviews, go to forums like this one and listen to Bluebear's advice. THEN buy it and be happy.

Thank you.

I just bought a Super Charged Nissan Frontier Crew Cab. That sucker is sweet.

But seriously.

You will record on your RS mics and think they sound great. You will play your mix for your family and friends and they will tell you how cool it is. You will burn it to CD and play it in your car and start to think it doesnt sound like a 'real' CD and the volume is too low. You will post it in the MP3 clinic and ask what you can do to improve your mix. People will say there is too much mids and not enough lows and highs and to not use so much reverb. You will go back and re EQ your mix and post it again but people will say the same thing and you will spend countless hours trying to make it sound good and it never will.

All because you used cheap mics with bad frequency response and high noise. Garbage in is garbage out.

You dont have to spend a lot of money but there is a certain level of quality that is required.

I'm sorry misanthrope, but those Radio Whack mics only useful
purpose are for drunk wannabe singers performin in front of
a bunch of drunk patrons at your local Karaoke bar!

I bought 1 for 19.99 2 years ago for 1 and ONLY 1 reason;
To use as a "loaner" when peeps come over and ask to borrow a mic for some show, recording etc.! I even took the time to paint over the Radio Whack logo on the mic and placed an "AKG" sticker
on it so the fools think they're getting a decent dynamic!

As a matter of fact, I even bought the mic to last years HR.COM JAM/FEST (there's a pic of it some where on this BBS) and had every-1 taking turns cracking Radio Whack mic jokes about it!:D

Excellent points, Chess and Tex.

Thats all I got to say....I hate radio shack anything,,,,I was just in there getting an adapter and I DID browse the....er....mic section. Funny stuff there.

I'm not putting down folks that use them....if you dont expect much you wont be let down but as brother Bruce pointed out, 57s'll do the moonwalk all over that stuff and make you cooler with the ladies as well......well......hmmmmm.

You could use them to practice your Roger Daltrey routine (not the singing part) or your GG Allin routine (again not the singing)

heylow

I hate radio shack mics. I just sold mine on ebay to someone. $1.08 i don't think it works.

Radio shack mics have thier uses, Have one arround in case someone wants to borrow a mic. If you dont get it back, no big deal.

I havent tried the tom mic, that Gidge mentioned, but I am Inclined to belive Harveys advice on these. The old Pzm mics they used to sell were good but they dont sell them anymore.

The R/S 3032 is pretty good for toms, but I wouldn't buy it at $50 (well okay, I DID buy one at $50 to try it). I'd wait till they had a sale on them for $30 or $35 each. For that money, the non red-banded AT Pro 25 for under $40 is a much better mic.
