I read at another recording site that some people had used the Radio Shack Unidirestional Condenser Cat # 33-3307 for drum over heads and some vocal and instrument micing and were quite impressed with the results especially when you compare the price to other condensers... they said that this model is discontinued .. in Canada at Radio Shack they sell a Electret Condenser mic Model # 33-3314 is this the same mic? Anyone have any experience with it as it is very reasonably priced for someone startin out...

Are you talking about the small pencil-like microphone with a AA battery in it? I remember miking a drum kit with that. We had two vocal mike in the bass drums (2 bass drums) and this between the 2 toms and the snare (no budget). You wouldn't believe how good the drum sounded. You could hear everything, snare, toms, ride, hit-hat, cymbal, from a SINGLE mic placed between the snare and the toms!

Yes they aren't much bigger than a pencil and they take AAA batteries i think....

I've used a different Radio Shack condenser that uses a AA battery (purchased in 1999). It's only drawback is some sensitivity to loudness --- If you stick it close to a drum or cymbal, it distorts (sooner than a more expensive one would). But if you keep it pretty high as an overhead, I've been pretty satisfied with the results.
