rack or mixer?

Hey Im setting up a new studio and I want it to be worth the amount Im thinking about spending on it, Im buying a mixer , but I dont know which would be better a mixer like a mackie dfx6 type probably not that exact one or a rack? Does anyone recommend any racks, for the microphones , speakers and headphones

Rack mixers usually save space at the expense of adjustment options. For many studio environments that may not be a good trade off.

I think most recording setups have the main board as a mostly flat horizontal table mixer. A typical 32 channel board will have about 600 knobs and controls. You just can't easily fit that into a rack area.
