Rack or Breakout?

Hi, im updating my home studio looking to spend about £300 on a new soundcard with at least 6 in/out to mic drums and such. Originally i was interested in the Edirol FA 101 breakout 10 in/out but have noticed that the reviews for the delta 1010 claim to be better quality. Anyone have an opinion on the matter? any assistance would be greatly appriciated!

At $400 you won't beat the sound quality of a 1010, may match it but won't beat it. If it meets your I/O requirements then it's probably a good match for you. I like racking things so that's another plus for the 1010. Lot of folks around here use 1010's so there's quite a bit of help if you ever need it. The drivers are good and stable.

Keep in mind the 1010 doesn't have any preamps.

I would love to have gone with a 1010 w/ breakout box myself, but I couldn't justify the price tag for my needs. I'm currently running 2 410s w/ breakout cables ($85.00 US each), but damn it'd been nice to have a rackmount breakout box!
