I work in a wood shop and am going to build myself a portable rack enclosure. Does anyone have measurements for building these? For Example, how far apart should the holes he spaced on the sides? What is the common depth of rack enclosures? thanks agian.

The measurements will depend on the size and amount of modules you wish to enclose.

Do you mean the spacing of the holes across the width of the enclosure? In this case, use one of your full space modules with rack ears as a template.

Do you mean the vertically spaced holes in the rack rails? Rack rails are avaliable in varying lengths from most studio supply houses pre-drilled the standard specifications.

How deep are your modules? Allow extra space in the back for protruding cables.

I did this a couple of months ago.
First off, buy the pre-drilled metal rails. They're already drilled and tapped on 1/2" centers. You can't realistically build the side rails out of wood, if that's what you're planning. They won't be strong enough and you can't tap wood...
As far as the enclosure, the sides will be about 20" apart. This will depend a little on the type of rails you get. The holes need to be 19" apart.
The depth on mine is 16" and holds everything nicely, but it looks like 14" would be enough.
Good Luck !!!

Hey Sdre I work at a machine shop and looked into making my own rack rails, mounts the whole works. I could have done it cheaper than buying but the time involved it wasn't worth it. I just bought a used 24 space rack on casters for $80. But hey that's just me I'm lazy.
