I am looking at building my own desk and would like to build the rack into the desk. I as of yet don't have any rack mountable components but will soon be acquiring some gear.

What I need to know is what are the measurements that my side panels need to be so I can fix the rack in to take the future components????

Thanx in advance! :)

Yeah, the gear is 19" wide.

Make your rack 19- 1/8" wide inside-to-inside.

Check around for pricing on rack rail too, the big chains charge big $$$ for it.

Cheers c7sus for the dimensions! :)

You can make racks 19 1/8" to 19 1/4" wide, and the gear will fit fine. One rack height is 1.75 inches, but be sure to leave at least an 1/8" extra on the top and bottom of the rack (inside measurements for all this).

I don't spend a lot of time in the cave! Post's don't count in the cave.

I have always used the DAW's for my recordings and have never needed or acquired rack mounted gear but I want to start having lots of lights and blinkies and stuff. I could of gone down to my local music shop and found out but I am sitting here at work with nothing to do :D so I thought I could save me some time and ask all you knowledgeable chappies here! :D

What's those dimensions in metric?............Only kidding! :p

If you like blinking lights you gotta have an 8x8 MIDI port. :p

I like what you posted save one point, velcro is so last century, I use 3M command mounting strips. Leaves no mess, or thats what they say, haven't had the need to pull the pieace of equipment that I used it on. You can get them in different lengths, so if its something big, you can use the larger strips front and back, just leave enough hanging out to pull on it so they come cleanly off. See here, but you have probably seen the commercial where a lady is hanging something with them, they come with or with out hooks, obviously you want the ones with out hooks unless you are trying to hang something on the wall  http://www.officeworld.com/Worlds-Biggest-Selection/MMM17024/07Q1/

Best possible reason for wanting to use outboard gear. :D

The rack would be 48.895 centimeters wide, and each rack space 4.445 centimeters high! :D

something to think about

Hi everyone, I'm new to the board.

Here is something to think about also

If you have any old Stage Boxes that you don't use anymore, nine times out of ten you can take the rack rales out of those to use if you are looking to cut cost

Hey Gorty

Lots of blinkys here ;)

EQ

Can be a nice light show for your rack :p
