Just got mine in. It's really nice and solid (weighs about 40 pounds). Has three 5 1/4" and one 3 1/2" floppy bay in front with lockable door, removeable filter in front and fans. They have another one at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2040601201
It's $66 plus $32 for shipping. Comes without power supply which is what I wanted. About 2 weeks ago they had about 90 of these so they should be on eBay for a while. Seems like last time I went looking for a 4U rackmount case the cheapest I found was about $160 w/o power supply.

I noticed it is a server chassis designed for a server. Will this be suitable for your computer? Some servers have different layouts within them.

i got a rackmount case with 7 5.25 slots and a 3.5 slot, two case fans, a 400 watt power supply withdual cooling fans, for 145, and the computer fit in fine....unfortunately the back is a little big so i need to buy a different rack for it to fit in......damn metric units, they always confuse me

well i've seen them with the right demensions to fit into a typical rack, but i unfortunately neglected to realize mine didn't...which sucks...

These cases are so beefy- you don't even need to put it in a rack!
Just set it on top of the rack with the rest of your gear. :)
At 40 pounds it ain't going anywhere.

I had planned get a case and shopped around for a rack case that would accomodate the slightly obese dimension (depth) and found that SKB only sells "$hock mount" cases that will fit around the case. Then when I actually got the case- I simply abandoned that useless plan.

At 40 pounds it ain't going anywhere. My cats have already given it the stress test, jumping on it and trying to knock it off the table where it sits. If they can't do it- it's probably safe.

so you got the shock mount kit and you didn't put the case in?
i was looking at the shock mounts but then i realize how much they were......ouch...that hurts after building a computer and getting a soundcard. I also these racks that are made of wood and have wheels and are 23 inches deep and they also fit 18 units in them for only 300 bones...not bad

>so you got the shock mount kit and you didn't put the case in?

No- i decided to forget about using a rack mount case for the case. At that point it would be too heavy for me to lug around anyway! Plus it's redundant as I mentioned. And saving the money was a plus. If you go with the rack mount case- be sure to rig up some sort of support in the back to take the load off of the ears in the front.

good idea about the support in the back...also don, that case looks pretty deep to me...if you're trying to get that into a rack like i was.............good luck

The rack I have is a commercial unit about 5' tall. It's set up to install heavy duty slides/runners or whatever you call them. I have some of these already. The case is also tapped/threaded on the sides to mount the slides. I'd hate to have to wrench this thing out anytime I wanted to play inside the case. Remove 4 screws and sssllliiiiiiddddeeee it out. I had intended on installing the case at the top of the rack, but at 40 lbs + I think I'll mount it much lower :D Oh yeah, the rack is on wheels too. Got tired of dragging it from the wall on carpet. I'll send a pic when it's installed.

o...i wish i had one of those.......but i just have a sissy skb case......and i thought THOSE were good

It's gonna fit! My rack is 23" deep and the rackmount case is 21" deep. Inside the case: One fan in front with removeable filter, 2 fans mounted on a crossmember in center of case. These fans are moveable across the crossmember. I really don't think I'll need these fans. Comes with rear plates to configure as a PC, server, etc. Crossmember also has moveable upper supports for circuit cards. Has keyboard jack in front in case you don't want to plug into your board in the back. Misc cables for power led, reset, fans, etc.
