found a way last night to rack mount my computer without having to purchase a new chasis. the biggest problem was the cd roms. if i turned the computer on its side to put it in a rack, how would i load a cd? well, last night i took my computer apart to install a dvd burner (oh yeah baby), and i found out that you can take the small chasis that the cd roms are in and turn it so that the cd roms are horizontal when the computer is laying on its side. lol so that is what i did. saved me $80 and the labor of putting all my componets from my tower to the rack. anyway, just thought i would tell somebody.

Are you talking about the internal chassis being able to be rotated? That's a cool idea (and a heck of a lot cheaper than a $200 rackmount PC case).

Darryl.....

yeah, the chasis that holds just the cd rom drives is able to be removed from the main chasis and rotated. it looks as thought it is made to do this. dont know if every computer does. mine is a dell dimension.

A picture would be great. I wann see it.

some cases will allow you, but lots don't. It works if you have 3 bays, i guess that makes a square then but if you have 2, a cdrom/writer just wont fit trough the hole.

heres a pic, along with some of my other babies. :D

Why bother??? Most CD drives will hold the cd in place in a vertical position.

not to be sarcastic, but why do people rack their computers? Better air flow? saving space? Just wondering

If you mount it on a rack that you bring to your concerts, you can use it to record your live show as well...

Cause it looks cool....

I did the same thing ('rackify' my PC)-, because I cant' find rack mounted PC housing for less than $150 in Europe and becuase I want it in an ISO Box. I hate noise when working ! I cn't understand people that have PC's in their studios that make more noise than an acoustic guitar...
