Trailing Behind Again
BentRabbit already posted his mix awhile back, but I begged and pleaded and bribed him ( an IOU through paypal j/k) and he sent me the tracks to mix myself.

Then he was cool enough to let me post it here. It's not done. But I am going to play sailor again and I'm leaving for Guam in the AM. So here is what I have so far. I need some fresh ears to help this one along so when I can get back to it, I have a benchmark.

It was quite a challenge for me. There were some unique things about these tracks that had me on the ropes. Like 10 drum tracks....

Heart Of It All

I think it's sounding pretty good....I'm a bit too tanked to try and give any real advice, but have enjoyed listening. It has some familiar sounds, from things I've listened to before, but some fresh things also. Some Yes type of sounds, maybe some ELP, sort of that era of Prog. Not straight up pop rock, but not too far from the mainstream. Maybe try and compress the vocals some, as they jump out a few times, but try and keep the dynamic feel that they have.....just try and tame the few spots that get louder, and more prominent. I think this type of song generally has vocals that are slightly quieter, if that's the vibe you wish to keep. Most of the time they sit well, so it's probably just a matter of evening them out throughout the tune.

All in all, it's a pretty cohesive mix. You can focus on one part, and here it throughout the song, yet hear the song as a whole.

Thanks Ed! That's a pretty good jump-off point. I knew the vocals weren't sitting quite right yet. I still have Rabbit's mix as a guide. I haven't compared them yet, because I don't want to influence myself. I want to mix it like I hear it.

Thanks again!

Sober up and listen again! :D

I've had a few listens now.....just tame the wild spots...don't smash the vox. I think a slight amount of compression, just on the upper volume level, would help them sit tighter. Keep the peaks from peaking, but leave all the rest.... :)

Thanks again. I'll get to work on it again probably on Monday night.

Keep 'em coming folks! :D
