Yeah I been drinkin, SO!?
I'm ready to drywall my studio, having put up this stuff called Hush Board first. Anyone ever use this stuff? I'm just wondering whether or not I should be kicking myself for not using it in the first place and skipped the Hush Board step. If anyone here can reccommend it highly enough, I might use it anyway if it's cheap enough.

Thanks.

IMO, you'd be better off using another layer of std 1/2" drywall and Green Glue in between. That'll give you more mass for less money and just as good if not better isolation. To get the big numbers they talk about with the Quiet Rock, you have to buy the really thick expensive stuff.

I think I read about this stuff a couple of times over at the John Sayers studio Building site. If I remember correctly (and you can verify this) - the price vs benefit was way off (not in a good way). I *think* the standing suggestion over there was to just use more drywalll, as STC doesn't account for lower frequencies, it's cheaper, and you get more benefit from thicker walls.

Thanks - I thought it sounded a little gimicky/overpriced. What I have up right now is a layer of this (leftover from a nearby building site, they just gave it to me), over which goes the drywall. It'll probably do, and you can't argue with the price.

What you have right now is garbage - the only god thing being that (even though it doesn't really help you squat) it doesn't hurt you in any way - especially if you got it for free.

Ignore the fact that it's there and add over it the thickest drywall you can afford.

And inside of walls you gain little benifit spending the duckies for 8pcf rockwool - just use fluffy insulation - it's the best investment fothe buck yo can make.

Sincerely,

Rod

Agreed. If you want a little extra density, you can always just jump up one thickness (like putting R-19 in a 3.5" cavity). Easy and relatively inexpensive.
