I heard there are fans out there that let you control their speed by a dial. Is this true? What are they called and where can I get them? Thanks again!
There are a few. I was using a thermaltake volcano 7+, it has a 3 position switch that adjusts the RPM's - It was still too noisy.
I changed from that to a Zalmann Flower Cooler, it has a potentiometer that allows you to drop the RPM's. The model is the CNPS6500B-Cu, http://www.zalmanusa.com/ .
Not the cheapest heatsink / fan on the market, but probably the quietest.
I find that it still is not quiet enough when tracking vocals or acoustics. The best solution is removing your computer from the tracking area, which is why I've decided to build a vocal/drum /acoustic booth. It's still a good idea to minimize computer noise as much as you can though, ever bit helps.
