Quick question if you don't mind

I currently have an 80gb 7200rpm 8mb cache HD. I am considering getting another one. I intend to install the new HD as master on the second IDE channel. My CD RW will be slave on IDE1 and the DVD/CD ROM slave on IDE2.

The main purpose of the new HD will be for audio files. However, would it be terrible to partition it so there is 20GB or so to use as a backup area for important data on the other HD? I would also have a partition on the first HD for backup of audio files.

What do you think?

80gb? Jeez, what are you filling it up with? *Ahem*. Anyway I think it sounds like a sensible decision. I presume when you say getting another you mean another 80gb one, that would still leave 60gb for music, thats what....... quite a lot of songs :)

Anyway don't trust me I'm just a red panda, never trust red pandas.

hehe...I know what you are getting at ;) and no... :D

I just wanted to have plenty of room for cross backups of the hard drives with out moving projects off all the time. Lot's of reduncency. Plus figuring you want to try to keep the drives to half full or under for quicker access rates (so I have heard)...go big I say :D

sounds like a good idea- the real trick is actually backing your files up!- Dont forget!
 
I trust you wouldn't be using all that space for that. Music does take up a lot of space :)
