if i'm using a vst to dx converter to use a plugin in cool edit do i need to install the plug-in in the converter folder instead of cool edits folder? i installed gsnap into my cool edit folder and now each time i try to open it it crashes cool edit.

I don't use any wrappers, so I'm not sure. I know Adobe supports VST, and it's worth the upgrade for that alone.

I used to make a folder right on my "C" drive called "VST Plugins" for them, then scan that folder with the wrapper program, ( I used the Cakewalk VST wrapper), some plugins never seemed to work right with that setup though, some would crash CEP, and others wouldn't remember their settings the next time I opened a session.

yeah, i'm having a problem with gsnap. occasionally it causes an error while i'm trying to load up a session, it'll close cool edit before it gets fully loaded up. once i can get it loaded up though it works fine through the whole session.

I will be honest with you. Before I upgraded I attempted to use wrappers and had to abandom them due to unstability and other issues. I would just upgrade to the newest version of Adobe if you can. In my experience you will never get the stability and usabilty you desire.
