If I have recorded a vocal track and had to cut 7 or 8 dB at 1.9khz to get any kind of listenable output level. If the same vocalist records through the same mic' and in the same way two further vocals - one an octave higher and another an octave lower, should I expect to have to cut the same frequency on both?

Wow.

Something is very wrong between the mic and the recorder if you have to cut that much of a (very) specific frequency.

When you say 'listenable output level' do you mean without distortion? Or did you just type cut when you meant boost?

Either way, your vocal will suffer greatly from over EQing. What kind of mic and board are you using?
