Recently I installed a second HDD (60GB), and when I checked the BIOS, the new drive is declared at only 26GB. Windows sees the full 60GB's and it is working fine.

...so whats up with the BIOS and is it a problem?

Thanks,

Did you try changing the settings to AUTO in BIOS? After exiting if on the black bootup screen where it lists drives, memory etc it still reads as 26GB perhaps your BIOS needs a flash.

Well if everything works fine you may consider just accepting it as a quirk. You can manualy typing in HD size in most bios, you'll have to see. I would be very hesitant to flash the BIOS myself IF everything works fine in reality. If you don't know exactly what your doing you can kill your mother board.

I concur with emeric, try setting the HD recognition to AUTO in the bios. If that doesnt work, then you'll have to look on the HD itself for the number of cylinders, sectors, etc. Then input those numbers into the HD recognition of the bios setup.

Well, it's good that Windows still recognizes it, because that's where it really counts.

You most likely have a certain type of BIOs like Award that only reads drive sizes of up to around 32GB.

I tried installing a 40GB on a friend's computer once and it'd only recognize around 30GB.

It's a BIOs limitation; you can try flashing the BIOs if you really care that much about it.
