I've got a DBX 266XL compressor. On the back of it, each of it's two channels has a little "operating level" switch. You can choose between +4dBu and -10 dBV. The user's manual tells me what the difference is between the two but mentions nothing about applying them.
Should I be using one or the other all the time or does it depend on how strong my signal is coming into the compressor as to which switch I need to choose? For example, does it simply come down to if I'm needing to increase gain on a weak signal should I use the +4dBu switch?
