Listening on my Event 20/20's the bass sounds freaking nice! I hear what you mean, how it drops off on certain notes, seems like the nature of the instrument. The only thing i could say to try is to ride the faders (or whatever digital equal you've got) like a madman. Or, the lower notes come out nicely, perhaps some multiband compression would help.

Very nice sound. I'm going to have to check out more of your tunes.

Take this for what it's worth, jeff. I'm listening on computer speaker's, the tone sound's like something sluice would use, so i referenced it with" winded" by sluice. Sound's pretty damn good over here!! Very similar low end, not overpowering at all. But like i said take this for what it's worth.( which aint much):D

Can't wait to hear the whole thing!!!!!!!!!

Thank's jeff!

peace

Rick

sounds pretty sweet over here.. looking forward to the finished product..

hey James

thanks for the listen!

Im using the Event PS5 also.... I believe mine are just amp'd

yeah.. I have this 1982 ?Yamaha BB2000 and removed the frets, but its a real pain to get a smooth sound out of it, because its considered a rock bass I guess.a la van halen. the intonation is also screwy.
I was thinking about saving for a new fretless.. but now that I hear something positive.. I might just keep it!

thanks!

thanks for the help also sam and rick.... I will definitly post when I'm finished...!

sounds ok so far. a little limiting/compression to smooth it out certainly isn't alien on bass gtr.

Hey Jeffy,
From what i could hear, it sounds great man. ...the sample's a little small to really get the jist, but i'll throw some things out that i think might be useful. Accentuate the higher mids to increase the "squeeze" in the fretless. That sound is what makes it a beautiful instrument, and that sound is in the mids. What kind of fretboard does the bass have..... just curious.

yeah mix.. i'll add a little compression and see how that evens everything out.. im afraid of adding too much .. like my reverb prob.

Hey G
The Fretboard is rosewood... Its a very solid bass with all kinds of problems :) I'll also try to find the sweet spots in the frequencies and try to increase their volume and attenuate the bad stuff :)
heres a pic of this little creature! thanks bud

I listen to stuff four or five ways. Through my 'dark' set of Sennheiser headphones, the bass is big and loud and distorting. Not good for a headphone mix.

Through my alternate, 'light' Sennheisers, it still sounds like it's distorting. It sounds like the bass is cranked so loud that it's making the bass cab speaker distort.

Okay, I helped you out, right? Can I have that bass in the picture now, please? :D

Nice segment of music, btw.

hey dobro

Im going through my preamp and its distorting at 50% volume when it hits my keyboard for effects.(reverb)

do they make a recorder where you can record music in brainwave form yet? :)

oh... my bass guitar finds your comment flattering :)

what type of sennheisers do you have... I used to have a set of hd590's... but they where the open-end type.. so that didnt work too well with recording guitars .. they were way more comfortable than my new sony mdr-7506's :(

That's a very nice sound you've got going there, but my tastes for this genre lean toward a more acoustic tone.

Have you checked out RE's CD? Those guys have this particular instrumentation arrangement nailed. Although maybe his endless mic cabinet gives him an edge.....

bass isn't blowing my home stereo, and that's usually a pretty good test. i agree with mixmkr about the compression. the level tends to waver a bit.

JM - the 'dark' Sennheisers are HD 580. The 'light' ones are HD 280 pro. I'm worried about this. How come I can hear distortion, and everybody else is reporting a sweet sound?

(dobro wanders into the toilet and looks in mirror...)

Damn! I knew it! My ears are distorted! :D

No, really - on the lowest bass notes - the sound's all wrinkled and twisted. What's going on? :(

Sorry Jeff I was just passing through on a less than adequate PC for this, so I can't listne properly for ya... but Guernica knows bass (not that the other don't...). And I agree with him about paying attention to the mids. The bass usually seems to benefit from small (3dB-5dB) boosts in the 500-1000Hz area to give it clarity, even when the body of it resides around 80hZ. Spectrum analyzers can be helpful when you get your ears to work cooperatively with your eyes. Mine still have a hard time just being in the same room together.

22 secs? Bogart!! :) I like the sound your getting. Like they said the mids need to come up to hear it dance more. It`s big, but a little brawny on the low end and scooped out in the mids. The tone is smooth. Have you experimented with using just one pickup at the time?
