Death Metal Freak
I just ordered the following to begin my home studio and have some questions:

2 Behringer XM8500 Microphone
2 20 Foot Ernie Ball XLR Microphone Cable 20 Foot
1 Behringer Eurorack UB802 Mixer

I read allot of reviews on these products and I am happy with what I bought (I have received them in the mail yet but happy they are on the way). I now need a cable to go from the mixer to my computer. Does anyone here own one of these mixers? Do I just need a stereo left/right jacks to plug into the mixer going to a 1/8 jack into my computer? SHould the 1/8 jack be stereo or mono? I was not sure what to but so I did not order it as I figured I could p/u one at guitar center. Anyone know?

Also, will this mixer work as a preamp? Anything else I will need?

get an RCA to 1/8 Stereo Jack..

Tape outs to Line in..

MAKE SURE ITS LINE IN AND NOT MIC IN OR YOU'LL FRY YOUR SOUNDCARD!!! :D

*i like typing in all caps* :D

Better yet, get a Y cable 2-1/4" to 1-Stereo 1/8". Then run from your stereo line outs on the mixer into your line in on the soundcard. That way if you end up needing two tracks at once, you are set.

The mixer is your preamp so you are golden.

It sounds like you are using a stock onboard soundcard.

This is your next upgrade. Trust me. :D

Thank you all for the info. Matalhead28, I know you posted that you would never buy the mics I did. But from all the user reviews of them they seem very good. Granted I am brand new to all this but the reviews are good.

What would you sugest for a sound card? Yes, I have what ever sound card came with my computer.

Most of the reviews you read from places like Musicians Friend are from people that only have that particular piece of equpiment and probably have no experience with anything better to compare it to, so of course they think it kicks ass. That said, you can probably do just fine with it but there will come a day when you'll want to upgrade. There's nothing wrong with starting out with inespensive equipment so good luck with it!

Sound cards...that is an endless debate. I started witn an M-Audio Delta 44 and was very happy with it. Even cheaper than that is the M-Audio Audiophile 2496. There are countless threads comparing soundcards around here. You might want to do some searching.

just my 0.02 kroner Check out Emu creative 0404, its dirt cheap but really exelent value for the money.
It can record separate 4 tracks simultaniously if conected correctly. :)

I think its price is hard to beat :)
